"I started producing my lamps, not knowing if I would ever sell them. Success came suddenly, unexpectedly, without warning. I didn't even know how to produce them on an assembly line. This is how the company Catellani & Smith was born. Almost by accident. Logan Smith - who we encouraged people to believe was a London architect - was actually the name of the horse I had at the time. Things have changed since 1989, the company has grown, production has increased, research through technology. Now we can do much more. Everything has changed so that nothing has changed. Our lamps are still made by hand, in attractive workplaces. They are all manufactured in Italy, on the banks of the river. There is no stress. We spend as much time on each lamp as it takes to make it well made. Because 'beautiful' is subjective, 'perfect' is not.
