In 2022, Sebastian Herkner teamed up again with Ligne Roset to create the Janus cabinet, for which he chose the finishes entirely. The originality of this piece of furniture lies in the fact that its doors can be opened/closed. The word “January” comes from Janus, the Roman god of beginnings and endings. Janus was proudly worshipped by the Romans as an “authentic” god (as opposed to the gods inherited from the Greek pantheon). He was the god of transitions - ends, beginnings, gates, passages.... The name Janus (Ianus, in Latin, since the alphabet does not have the letter J) is etymologically related to the word ianua, door.
